October 2007

Got to the range, found the sun was shining in my face and the targets were in shade. It was the
kind of weather that makes for fouling in the breech and I found I'd left my fake foresight at
home.

Not to worry, I simply put up two targets, aimed at the bottom one and hit the top. Soft leather
patches, Leehigh Valley lube, no wad, no wiping between shots which may have been a mistake
because Baker says swab constantly, use urine if nothing else is available. I can only say they
seemed to go down okay.

From 16 shots I got 7 on paper, another 2 through the target frame and one on the bottom target.
From the disturbances in the sand I think I pulled the rest off to the right. I do have excuses... I
was a bit wobbly, the trigger is very hard to pull, ignition was slow and hey, let's not forget what
100 yards looks like. The shots on the paper are not a bad group, that's 7 dead, one wounded and
two in need of fresh breeks :o)

I collected my targets, searched for patches, found 4 then came home

Two perfect patches, two ripped to shreds, the rest unfindable. Is it the fouling? One of them looks
very stretched, got me thinking, perhaps the fouling stretched it thin on the way down and caused
blow-by on the way out???

When I got home I pulled the breech plug, rammed a ball straight through and it was worse than
stretched, it was worn through. I have an excuse... after driving 83 miles I left the urine in the car
park hedge.
